A Chinese citizen, identified as Zhang Xiuqiang, is facing theft charges for reportedly pilfering over USD 23,000 in cash from three fellow passengers during a budget flight from Vietnam to Singapore. The 52-year-old man was aboard a flight operated by Scoot, the budget carrier of Singapore Airlines, according to court charge sheets.

An official spokesperson from the airline confirmed awareness of the incident, which took place on a flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore on December 16, as reported by CNN.

“Our cabin crew received notification from a passenger regarding a suspected theft in the cabin, prompting the activation of the Airport Police Division,” the spokesperson stated.

“Airport authorities escorted the individuals involved off the aircraft for additional investigation,” and the disembarkation process continued as per standard procedures, as reported by various media outlets.

Scoot expressed limitations in sharing additional details about the case but issued a caution to both crew and passengers to stay vigilant while on board.

“Our operating crew undergo rigorous training to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious behavior during our flights,” the airline stated. “We also strongly advise our customers to take precautions to protect their valuables at all times,” as mentioned in their official statement.
